Toblach Composing House in the Naturklang Park

Private Owned
Nature Sound Inspiration

In the summer months of 1908-1910, Gustav Mahler composed some of his most famous works in this simple wooden hut in the heart of the Dolomites: the 9th and 10th symphonies and the “Song of the Earth”.

People always think,” cried Mahler, “that nature lies on the surface! As far as what is most external about it is concerned, yes! But they have not yet discovered the trace of it, not all the horrors of an infinite, mysterious, divine face of nature that we can only suspect, cannot understand or penetrate. […] And a trace of this infinite in nature must lie in every work of art that is supposed to be a depiction of it.

Letter to Natalie Bauer-Lechner, July 1900. Mahler

Unfortunately, the tour of the Interior of the Composing House has already ended for this summer.
In the summer of 2024, the “Mahlernaturklangpark”* will open its doors again in collaboration with the Toblach Tourism Association.
