Franz Kaim was concert promoter and royal Württemberg Hofrat. He founded in 1893 the Kaim Orchestra, the predecessor of the orchestra of the Munich Concert Society and later the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).
Kaim was the son of the pianoforte manufacturer in Stuttgart Franz Kaim (1822-1901) and the Karoline Pauline Krais (1828-1900). His grandfather was the instrument maker in Kirchheim unter Teck Franz Anton Kaim, a brother of Heinrich Kaim.
Franz Kaim studied philology in Tübingen. During his studies, he was in 1874 a member of the Tübingen royal society Roigel. He earned his doctorate in law. phil. and worked as a lecturer at the Polytechnic University in Stuttgart.
Since 1891 he organized piano and singing evenings under the title “Kaimkonzerte”, both to make the instruments of his father in Munich known, as well as to create talented soloists, especially pianists and singers, a podium. The building of the Kaim-Saal in Munich dates back to 1895, later called the Tonhalle.
Because of his success, he decided to found an orchestra. Through attractive program design, subscription concerts and since 1898 by popular symphony concerts and popular Sunday concerts, this orchestra quickly gained supraregional importance in Germany and was able to perform successful guest tours to the Netherlands, Austria and Italy. Kaim founded the Philharmonic Choir Munich in 1895 and in 1899 the famous spa concerts in Bad Kissingen.
In 1882 he married Beirut Emilie Jacho-Ilg and on March 22, 1892 he married in Nuremberg with Karoline Schirndinger von Schirnding. In 1905 he moved with his family to his native town Kirchheim unter Teck.
