Secretary and Counsel

Bill Richter is the principal of Richter Law Offices, a solo practice he formed in 2002 in Santa Cruz, California to advise entrepreneurs, investors and companies on corporate formation and daily operations, as well as in transactions including financings and mergers and acquisitions and strategic partnerships. Prior to forming Richter Law Offices, Bill practiced corporate law for five years at each of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C. (Palo Alto) and Shearman & Sterling LLP (NYC and Budapest). He is a member of the California and New York State Bars. He served as Chief of the Privatization Division within USAID’s Moscow Mission in the mid-90’s. Bill holds a B.A. from Yale College, an A.M. in Russian from Harvard, and earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law.

His service on nonprofit boards includes (in addition to Mahler Foundation), 12 years with Santa Cruz Shakespeare and its predecessor (including as founding Board president), the American Farm School and Perrotis College in Thessaloniki, Greece (as chair of the Legal Committee and member of Executive Committee), and 19 years of service as a founding trustee, now honorary trustee, of Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory School, an independent 6-12 school in Santa Cruz. Bill is a member of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the International Network of Boutique Law Firms (INBLF), an advisor to ClearHealthCosts, a startup bringing transparency to healthcare pricing in the U.S., and a mentor working with the Spanish entrepreneurs who are clients of the Spain Tech Center in San Francisco.
