Saturday, September 2, 2023 | 16:00 CEST

Program

One of the most coveted prizes in the world of conducting is the Bamberg Mahler Competition. This esteemed event has helped launch the rise of conductors like Kahchun Wong, Lahav Shani, and Gustavo Dudamel, who all won the first prize in Bamberg as their careers were emerging.

As the name indicates, Gustav Mahler played a role in inspiring the Competition and is a continued presence in its repertoire.

On this edition of The Mahler Hour, we speak with 2023 winner, the Italian conductor Giuseppe Mengoli, who tells us about his experience of the Competition and its significance to him.
We are joined by the co-founder of the Competition, Marina Mahler, who will share how the Competition got started and what it has come to mean.

Mahler Foundation Chairman, Martin Campbell-White, reveals what is like to be in the jury and also explains Mahler Foundation’s award at the Bamberg Competition for Best Performance of a Work of Contemporary Music; we also hear from the winner of that award, Kevin Fitzgerald.
Play now and join us for a unique opportunity to get know some of the key individuals at the Bamberg Mahler Competition 2023.
