A unique collaboration between the famous Mahler Music Weeks in Toblach and Mahler Foundation.
From 1908 to 1910, Gustav Mahler spent his summer vacations in Toblach and composed “Das Lied von der Erde,” the Ninth, and the unfinished Tenth Symphony there. In his honor, the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks were founded in 1981, and since then, they have become an annual celebration of Mahler’s music, unique worldwide, for over 40 years.
This year the festival will be held from July 13th to 29th 2024, offering symphony concerts, ensemble concerts, chamber concerts, and a special children’s program.
A high-profile symposium will also take place, bringing together renowned music scholars worldwide. Find all the details here.
Mahler Foundation will be part of the festival by making its film on Mahler’s Sixth Symphony available, with German subtitles explicitly created for the event. The film is part of the documentary series “Mahler’s Universe,” with insights into his nine symphonies, and “Das Lied von der Erde,” produced by the Mahler Foundation in collaboration with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The film screening will take place in connection with the performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 6 on July 19th by the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, conducted by Michael Sanderling.
