  • American String Quartet
  • Patricio Sabaté – Baritone

The Portillo Festival is back, this year with a performance of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. After a week of coachings, master classes, ensemble recitals, and rehearsals high in the Chilean Andes the young musicians traveled down the mountain for two public concerts in the grand Municipal Theater of Santiago.

January 2023’s webcast was streamed live from this spectacular setting and includes interviews with soloists, student performers, the American String Quartet – resident artists – and the conductor and founder of the Festival, Alejandra Urrutia.

Play now and join us as we explore this annual project bringing together musicians from numerous countries in an environment of learning and camaraderie, music-making, and understanding as they set about their journey to Mahler’s towering late masterpiece.
