1904 Concert Mainz 23-03-1904 – Symphony No. 4.

Mainz stadtische Musikkapelle.

The history of the Mainz Philharmonic Orchestra, the theatre’s resident orchestra, can be traced to the Mainz court orchestra in the early 16th century. It became part of the Mainz theatre in 1833. The orchestra presents a series of concerts and also programmes for children and young people.

The first conductor was Emil Steinbach under whose direction the first concert of Siegfried Idyll by Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was held in 1877. This was followed by the premiere of Der arme Heinrich by Hans Pfitzner (1869-1949) in 1885. In 1904, Gustav Mahler (1860-1911)‘s Fourth Symphony was performed.
