From New York to Beijing

October 3, 2020

  • Shuang Zou – Artistic Director of the 23rd annual Beijing Music Festival
  • Lew Smoley – President of The New York Gustav Mahler Society
  • Kenneth Woods – Conductor of the English Symphony Orchestra

This time we traveled “From New York to Beijing”!

We met Shuang Zou, Artistic Director of the 23rd annual Beijing Music Festival, who gave us details about their incredibly rich 10 days of programming, including Mahler (of course!).

We learned about the latest activities of The New York Gustav Mahler Society from their president, Lew Smoley.

We interviewed Kenneth Woods of the English Symphony Orchestra who presented his latest project bringing together Mahler, Wagner, and Schubert in some noteworthy chamber arrangements.

We saw the first in a new series entitled “Meeting Mahler” – a first-person visit to Mahler’s composing hut in Steinbach am Attersee.

Plus: Highlights of our newly upgraded website and the announcement of a new series of monthly in-depth programs from Mahler Foundation entitled “The Mahler Spotlight”!

Hosted by Morten Solvik.
