No doubt this was initiated at the request of Paul Bulss (1842-1902), 1893 Concert Hamburg 27-10-1893 – Symphony No. 1, Des Knaben Wunderhorn (Premieres), whom Mahler had first met at Kassel, 1885 Concert Kassel 29-06-1885, and later Bulss had also appeared as a guest under Mahler in Leipzig, and most recently at th Stadttheater in Hamburg
