79. 1907. Vienna . The well-known series of portraits of Mahler taken in the Vienna State Opera during his final year as director. The armchair that appears in many of these pictures is the same one that Mahler used at his desk. In 05-1907, after an unrelenting press campaign against him, Mahler gave up his position and later that year signed a contract with the New York Metropolitan Opera (MET) in New York .
