The rehearsals lasted two days and were directed by Mahler himself who dedicated the fourth movement “Adagietto” to his wife Alma. At the end of the work, Mahler said: “… Nobody understood the work. I would like to be able to conduct it for the first time again but fifty years after my death! … “.
