Mark your calendars for September 7th, as the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra kicks off its historic season with Mahler’s Second Symphony in the contemporary setting of the Isarphilharmonie’s Hall.

Mahler’s groundbreaking “Resurrection Symphony” embodies transition and renewal in many aspects – the perfect masterpiece to inaugurate the new season of the Munich Philharmonic. In this symphony, rich with symbolism, Mahler grapples with profound existential questions of birth and demise, of death and rebirth, weaving a tapestry of emotions that traverse from sorrow to triumphant joy.

Guiding this musical exploration is Guest Conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, whose celebrated debut with the Munich Philharmonic in December 2022 garnered well-deserved acclaim. She follows in the footsteps of legendary maestros, including Gustav Mahler himself, who led the orchestra in 1897, 1901, and 1910. Notably, he performed his fourth symphony in 1901 and conducted the world premiere of his eighth symphony in 1910.

The Orchestra will be accompanied by the Philharmonischer Chor München, led by Professor Andreas Hermann. Joining this artistic journey are Grammy-nominated American soprano Talise Trevigne and acclaimed Mezzo-Soprano Okka von der Damerau.

As the orchestra’s resounding crescendos blend with delicate passages, Mahler’s Second Symphony transforms into a breathtaking contemplation of existence itself. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary musical event!
