Annual festival

The Gustav Mahler Festival in Steinbach am Attersee presents five days of concerts, excursions, talks, and an exhibition around a central theme. Past topics include “Mahler, Brahms, and Bicycling”, “Mahler’s Spirituality”, and “Mahler, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, and the Folk”.

May 29 – June 2, 2024

This year’s festival is dedicated to “Mahler and Bruckner”, the similarities and differences in their approaches to music and the complex biographical details that characterized their interactions during their lifetimes. Highlights include a choral concert of original works and arrangements of Bruckner, Mahler, and Schoenberg performed by chorus sine nominee with organ improvisations by Martin Haselböck, Mahler’s four-hand piano arrangement of Bruckner’s Third Symphony, as well as Mahler’s Second Symphony with Elisabeth Fuchs conducting the Philharmonic Salzburg.
